Being A General Dentist For 20 Years, Dr. Rainey Has Seen How Retractive Traditional Orthodontics Can Affect A Patient’s TMJ Pain And Crowd The Airway By Pushing The Tongue Toward The Throat. Our Goal Is To Create A Beautiful, Straight Smile, Without Decreasing Room In The Mouth That Could Possibly Crowd The Airway.
Our Orthodontic Approach
Our orthodontic goal is always non-retractive and non-extraction treatment for adults and children. Whenever possible, early orthodontic expansion can be life-changing for a child’s overall health as they grow. With adults, we always strive to create a broad and beautiful smile that either maintains or increases the tongue space. Anything that reduces the tongue space could decrease the airway size. Dr. Rainey is a Diplomate of the Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and approaches orthodontic treatment based on his understanding of the connection between sleep-disordered breathing problems and the airway.

Braces
Our orthodontic braces, suitable for both young and adult patients, use advanced, comfortable brackets and light wires, focusing on gentle treatment. We emphasize maintaining a healthy airway by avoiding tooth retraction, extractions, or traditional retractive headgear, ensuring a forward-growing facial structure.
Early Orthodontics
Early orthodontic treatment in children focuses on correcting jaw growth deficiencies, using custom expanders and, if needed, reverse-pull face masks for forward jaw growth. Our aim is to guide jaw development for sufficient space for permanent teeth and the tongue, preventing the need for tooth removal due to insufficient jaw width.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners, including Invisalign®, offer a metal-free alternative to traditional braces, blending discreetly with their almost-invisible appearance and preferred by many teens and adults. Dr. Rainey, an experienced Invisalign provider for over 15 years, custom designs each case in our office for optimal results, ensuring direct oversight unlike treatments set up remotely by technicians.
Maxillary Skeletal Expander
The Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE) is a micro-implant-assisted rapid palatal expander designed for significant expansion in both children and non-growing adults. Utilizing four temporary micro-implants in the palate, placed under local anesthetic, the MSE provides extra anchorage to move palatal bones beyond the capabilities of traditional expanders.
